Men and women alike are now making unsightly facial veins a thing of the past. With the most advanced technology and a unique design, the laser system offered at the Aesthetic & Vein Center MD can safely and effectively treat both the tiny superficial veins and the deeper blue veins of the face and trunk.
How does Vein Therapy work?
Our laser system delivers pulses of light energy that cause the blood inside the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vein, which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow is then redirected to less superficial veins, where it should be.
What types of veins can be treated?
We can treat unsightly veins on all parts of the body. Small veins of the face and trunk (or “telangiectasia”) can be treated quickly with minimal risks of bruising. With our YAG 1064 Cutera® laser system, we have also consistently achieved excellent results for larger blue or green veins of the face (reticular veins).
What about blood blisters and port wine stains?
Blood blisters (venous lakes or “hemangiomas”) respond very well to laser therapy, usually with just one treatment. Patients with port wine stains represent a more challenging problem but may see some improvement with laser treatments.
How many treatments do I need?
Usually, one or two treatments are needed; however, the number of sessions depends on the number and size of the veins being treated. Since individual results vary, Dr. Miller and our laser specialist will provide you with information on your specific condition.
Do the treatments hurt?
Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of laser energy are delivered to the skin. No local anesthesia or pain medication is usually required. Following the treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.
What are the possible side effects?
Although many patients report few if any side effects, those most commonly reported are slight redness and local swelling of the skin. These effects typically last for less than 24 hours. Some patients may experience bruising and, in rare instances, blistering may occur. Our team will provide you with complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.
Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?
Patients generally resume most normal activities immediately. However, it is recommended that you avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.
When will I see results?
The majority of the treated veins show significant improvement within two to six weeks. You may not see the final result for several months; the time frame depends on the type of vein treated. Over time, it is possible that new veins appear, but these too can be eliminated with our laser system.
