If you want to lose those extra inches around the waist or around the thighs, “tumescent” Liposuction appears as an excellent option because it is performed totally under local anesthesia. The word "tumescent" means swollen and firm. By injecting a large volume of very dilute lidocaine (local anesthetic) into the subcutaneous fat, the targeted tissue becomes swollen and firm, or tumescent. The tumescent technique is a method that provides local anesthesia to large volumes of subcutaneous fat and thus permits the removal of collections of fat totally by local anesthesia.

The tumescent technique eliminates the need for general anesthesia or for intravenous narcotics and sedatives. The combination of tumescent local anesthesia with the use of microcannulas (less than 3 mm) allows a safe procedure and prevent many of the complications typically associated with liposuction under general anesthesia.

Other areas which may be treated by this technique include the hips and buttocks, the back, the arms as well as the face and neck.

Depending on the body site, the amount of fat to remove and the laxity of your skin, Dr Miller will determine whether you would be best treated by PureLipo (BodySculpture with microcannulas), SmartLipo (laser assisted lipolysis) or a combination of these two techniques.
